This Barbie Princess gown is like Belle's yellow ball gown she wore when she was dancing with the Beast...
at least everyone at craft shows told me that as I was making this gown in the late 80s. It's made of a beautiful shade of yellow satin with a matching overskirt. The overskirt is hand-gathered in 4 places then trimmed with small ribbon roses or other small matching trim. The trim will vary due to availability and the shades of yellow may vary as well due to satin color availability. Currently I am back to using yellow gold iridescent fabric for the overskirt, which is what is pictured below--the picture to the left shows it in satin. When the iridescent runs out I will have to go back to using matching satin.
The short puffed sleeves give an off-shoulder look. If the off-shoulder style bothers you, then this may not be the gown for you because the sleeves do stay off the shoulders most of the time depending on the doll type. I just wanted to be sure that everyone was aware of that.
Can't you just see Barbie, wearing her beautiful satin Princess gown, pretending she's Belle waltzing with the Beast in the ballroom? You can stage your own production of everyone's favorite movie--all you need is your Beast doll, this gown and a pair of shoes for your Barbie! Or maybe your Ken would like to be the transformed beast and wear this Ken tuxedo that my mom makes.
A nice addition to your Barbie Princess Gown would be one of my Barbie Capes . (Remember in the movie how they played in the snow and Belle was wearing her cape?)
All you need to do is pick your favorite color or what you think will go best with your yellow Princess Gown like Belle's! This gown also looks beautiful in other jewel colors or as a wedding gown. I think the wedding gown option deserves its own page so I am hoping to get around to doing that soon.
I am currently making the gown with a shiny iridescent marigold color overskirt. At one point I thought I had run out of that fabric but found a good sized stash of it. Here is what Nikki, Barbie's Fashion Fever body friend looks like in it. As you can see and as with all my Barbie clothes, it can be made to fit the newer body:
